Blogging Basics 101 – Day 2

sky-290130_640BLOG IMGWelcome to the second day of my small blogging series! If you would like to see the first day, it is here:

Day 2

Do you really want to have a blog?

There are a few things you might want to consider before taking the time to set up and start a blog.

  • Do you enjoy researching information on the internet and writing about it? There are different kinds of posts that can be written on your blog. The majority of them though, will be providing relevant information for your readers. If you are new to the internet marketing world, it will require learning on your part. Things are constantly changing online, so experienced marketers also need to say informed about changes and new information.  A writer could be hired to write some posts, but in my opinion I think they should be personalized to fit your style of writing.
  • How do you feel about expressing your thoughts and opinions to the public? If you are uncomfortable about this, are you willing to move out of your comfort zone to do it? It is important to share a little bit about yourself if you want to establish your brand online. It is a good idea to have a page that shares a few personal things about you. Periodical blog posts written from the personal side, give your readers some variety and strengthens your relationship with them. I have also noticed that a high percentage of blog posts that have gone viral, discussed controversial issues. The blogger was not shy about stating their opinion on the subject at hand. Of course, if we state our opinion about something there will be those that disagree. We may possibly receive a negative critque on one of our posts, and that is something we must learn to deal with.
  • Another part of having a blog, is commenting on other blogs. Are you willing to hop from blog to blog and leave helpful, thoughtful comments? You must also be able to comment on other’s comments on your blog.
  • Are you ready to make a committment to your blog? Blogging requires consistent effort. Regular posting and commenting on other blogs is really a requirement if you want to see traffic coming to your blog. It takes time to decide and plan what you want to post about. There are also some technical things you need to learn, however I have found that WordPress is relatively simple.

Having a blog is your “home” on the internet. If you are willing to overcome any discomfort you may feel about any of this, than I would think you will find that the benefits of having your own blog will be worth the effort!

Good for you Pauline. I think we do become more comfortable with stating our opinion and being ourselves each time we publish more content.

      Wishing you blogging success, Rose
