Happy Birthday Facebook!

February is flying by quickly. After dealing with colds, the flu and the very snowy weather I am definitely looking forward to spring! Spring will bring the return of the Canada geese, as well as a myriad of other wonderful birds. It brings to mind the busyness that we would like to see on our websites. If we manage traffic properly, hopefully we will have visitors flocking over to see what we have to offer.

Social media has become a very important asset to getting traffic. Facebook is one of those places where we can connect with others.

Facebook is celebrating its tenth birthday this month. It is almost as popular as Google. No longer populated by mostly teenagers, their parents and grandparents are using it as well. People also access Facebook from their phones or mobile devices as well as their home computers.

Facebook is great for connecting people to our blogs, and keeping them up to date on what we are doing in our business, and what products we might have to offer. It can also be great for developing some great business friendships, and maybe some future JV partners.

It is important to have a high percentage of content that is valuable and relevant to our business and audience. If you have reached a milestone in your business, share it! Try to engage your audience in the conversation by asking lots of questions, and asking for their opinions. Be sure to reply to their comments.

Relevant pictures are important as well, depending on what our audience prefers, and how responsive they are. Maybe they would enjoy a fun picture, or something else we might want to share just for the fun of it.

We could also offer a freebie periodically, or have a contest, or some special topic for one day of the week to keep our audience engaged.

It can be a challenge at times to keep up with social media, and consistently post at the right times – but in my opinion it is a lot more fun than doing SEO!
